Fashioning My Cyber Microcosm: Musing (unrelated imagery for viewing pleasure)

I've been feeling indisposed these past couple days; I feel like I'm on the cusp of an illness, and I'm fighting in vain to stop the inevitable.
Snuggling on the couch to watch Star Trek, or cocooning myself in front of my computer have been the jist of what my body and mind are willing to do.
I've found myself with a bit of will to think about other things today, however...

Mostly about what I desire the topics for my next posts to be about. There are three that stand out at the forefront of my thoughts; make up tips for the person of color who also wears glasses (mouthful), participating in a goth blog challenge, and creating a creepy crafty challenge of my own.

The creepy crafty challenge would likely only happen monthly or perhaps bi-monthly. What I had in mind is fairly simple; create a tutorial for something crafty, and then challenge you, my readers, to recreate it in your own creepy ways and post back about it. I'll pick my two favorites to showcase in full (that number is totally dependent on the amount of participants)-- I may even ask you some questions so that I may write about it here. The challenge won't necessarily be about something like sewing; I could make a post about recreating a vintage look with make up or clothes and things that you have in your wardrobe already.

I guess my question then would be, is there any interest in that at all? How extensive/challenging would you all prefer this to be; the way I see it, it's a way to break the status quo for those of you who do not create something very often, and it's definitely different than many challenges out there in the blogosphere. Who know's, it may even reveal hidden talents!

I don't really consider myself an expert in the things I do, which is why I very rarely discuss topics such as style guides and tutorials... but who knows, maybe someone out there believes I do indeed have something to offer than what I already do.
I thought that since there is a lack of make up tips for the neutral skin toned goth of color, that it might be interesting to do; as one who also wears glasses, this topic is particularly challenging, but would hopefully yield some use to someone. Assuming I don't completely botch it...

My dear readers, your feedback is a gift I do enjoy receiving-- please feel free to give me your two cents.

  1. I love the pictures! I am collecting pictures like that for some wall pictures sometime in the future!

I think the challenges sound fun! I usually pick and choose whether I will participate in a challenge based on how much the theme resounds with me, but I think it's a great idea and sounds like fun!

    1. I love collecting vintage imagery such as these; I figured I'd share some of my favorites-- I'm glad you enjoy them!

I'm the same way, I'm very particular about challenges; sometimes I won't participate in one's that I have in the past because the theme isn't something I can enthusiastically write about... or the theme is sooo out of the theme I try and keep on my own blog lol.

I am hoping that this challenge will be rewarding to both parties; since I can talk about the ones I love, and the blogger gets some solid publicity rather than a "link back". =)

  2. I agree completely with Laura about picking and choosing. I can always tell when I've strayed too far from my (and that of my readers) comfort zone when participating in theme posts, as the statistics definitely show! However, since what everybody seems to enjoy most on my blog is crafts, I'd love to participate in the Creepy Craft Challenge whenever possible and for as long as I can - i.e. right up until the day the craft supplies have been packed away! I think it's a great idea, Madame MM! :D

    1. Well I'm super thrilled to hear that you would participate.
Y'know I feel the same about challenges, which is why I *try* and incorporate it with something that pertains with general theme of my blog (if and when I do participate).

  3. Here are the two cents the (Caucasian) Swede with 20/20 vision can offer: I'm a crafty person, but sometimes I need a push. I love goth influences, but don't consider myself goth. I don't like too many rules. Recreating something that has already been done is very limiting, and just not my bag. BUT - I love blog parties/ challenges with themes, when everyone gets to interpret it in the way that suits them (but still within parameters). I would SO join in!

    1. Hah! Well you're lucky not to need the aid of glasses or have a limited pallet of colors that can suit you and your skin tone... and glasses...

The rules certainly wouldn't be rigid; the creepy crafty challenge is a challenge to take and item that I present, and the only charge is that you make it your own-- like anything in this big blue world of ours hehe. Watching movie collaborations are to blame for this thought =)
It's fascinating seeing hundreds of people put together the same thing, and seeing that no two are ever alike! And yet they flow so effortlessly together despite the stark differences in style.

  4. I would totally join in on the creative challenges! I am totally someone who needs a bit of inspiration sometimes to get off the video games and create.

Also, while I am not a goth of varied skin tone, I do think that there is certainly a hole in that area when it comes to make up tutorials. Either that, or I have not run across them.

    1. This is exactly what I would hope for the creepy craft challenge! I want to inspire people to create!
Heh, though I also have those days when games feel like the most attractive way to pass the time lol...

Well there's a lot of people who blog looks, but rarely how to make them-- I agree. Glad you're on board!
