Skeleton Closet: Turning A New Leaf

Well, here I am!

No new house yet, but I am currently typing within my new town, in a motel.

We've been running into a lot of trouble since we first step foot into the town,
In a nutshell; the house we want has a big likelihood of not working out anymore, usps lost some of the clothes I sent down, the motel is constantly having problems (toilet, shower, water in general...), my acne is coming back fiercely... lots of bad juju.
I'm actually quite lucky to be on the internet at all, because the connectivity is weak at best.

But this is not hindering our determination! Once we actually have a home, things will start looking up... I hope...

I remember being ultra proud of the outfits I wore when we came to look at houses on our list, and since the postal service lost some of my favorite handmade articles, I decided to show off one of those outfits that featured one of those lost pieces. I only managed to take a photo of one of the three outfits before I left, but maybe when I finally have a house, I'll put together the outfits again just so I can show them off.
Missing: handmade shorts
I made these shorts as a part of a reader's choice post. Since I made them, I can't actually prove their worth, so I don't know if my claim for the lost articles will go through-- even though I bought insurance. Well anyway, at this point all I can do is hope that this big move inevitably falls into place.

You might notice I am actually wearing black lipstick...
Call it my new leaf; I decided to hell with the rules, or what others may deem as attractive.

As a 20-something, I am still allowed to be young and slightly carel free .
I have always loved black lipstick, but so many have told me it just doesn't work with darker skin, or it's never practical except for Halloween, that I actually started to believe it. I allowed the poison in... but now, I'm going to expel it all, as a part of my BatFit detox.

It's time for a fresh beginning.

What I am wearing:

  • Jacket: Fairweather
  • Top: "Too Fast", gift from best friend
  • Shorts: Self made from Simplicity pattern 2367
  • Boots: Gift from younger brother

  1. Oh no, they lost your stuff?! That sucks :( Is there a chance it might still turn up?
I'm also sorry the house isn't working out. Such bad luck you are having! I hope April comes with better luck and good surprises.

    1. Well I gave them my box of goods, in perfectly good condition. When I got down here and received the box, it was mashed and torn right open; the clothes just fell out. They told me to file a claim as "received damaged", but the process is making it seem like I won't be seeing any compensation for their carelessness.

Thank you, I hope so too!

  3. I think the black lipstick looks rad on you, especially because you have sexy full-lips!! I sincerely hope you get a house soon. I would flip out if I had to stay in a rambly hotel.

    1. Thank you *blush*
I keep hoping for a home, too-- it's only been 5 days and all this has happened in that short of time. Unfortunately, if the house does not go through, the stay in this hotel will definitely be 2 months >.< UGH

  4. Well, it's hard to say because your skin looks quite light and rather pale on these pix...but I think the black lipstick looks great on you, it enhances your full lips. :)
I hope you get your stuff back, it can't just disappear...especially if you bought insurrance. And good luck with the house project too. :)

    1. I admit, this is me at my most pale-- which is more of an olive. But when I get more sun, my skin just absorbs it and I darken.

Well, the box had been crushed and torn into during the ship-- clothes must've fallen right out, and they just ignored it. I was quite livid, because this is more damage than I have ever seen on a package-- which is saying something because my mother and younger brother both work in a post office!

    1. Yes, I was livid! I guess the silver lining is that it was mostly things I made, which means I will have them again.

  6. Don't give up hope on a claim, Madame MM. I just got full reimbursement for an article I bought on eBay that arrived damaged ... and that was even dealing with two different country's post offices!

Sucks about the hotel though. I hope your house eventually comes through. Sending some good juju your way ... :)

    1. Definitely won't be giving up. I need that money so I can buy the fabric to remake it all again!
I generally found that Canada Post puts up less of a fuss for fully insured packages than USPS... which frankly irks me-- you pay the extra so you wouldn't have to hassle!

Eh, the hotel is temporary (albeit a long stay at it), and I have trouble reminding myself that it is, heheh.
      Thanks for the good juju!

    1. The lady at the post office made sure to mention it *several* times that it arrived to them that damaged. It really only added to my annoyance, rather than quell it.

  8. I love black lipstick on you! I can't wear it because any lipstick at all makes my skin go nuts, but I wish I could. Certainly not just for halloween and I think it looks good on all skin tones and it's actually a slightly more subtle and day time wearable look if you aren't super pale.

Really like your top too! Purple touches with a black outfit are so awesome.

Good luck with the house hunt and USPS revenge!!!

    1. Thank you!
Something certainly boosted my confidence to wear it; I feel that much more happy about the way I'm dressing-- I am so tired of acting older than my age lol... is that a thing?! Most of my "rebelliousness" is harmless anyway, heheh.

Purple and black! the only colors in my rainbow ;P
And maybe just a hint of orange in there.

      Thanks!

  9. Aw, I hope things get sorted out! Your outfit is amazing by the way, especially the hand-made shorts. I would have thought black lipstick looked better on your darker skin anyway than than super pale folk (like myself)?? Not that it matters anyway though - you're quite right: to heck with fashion rules!

    1. In general, I love how the black lipstick creates a defined contrast.
I'm a huge fan of dark lips! Purples and reds were an easy way for me to pass through unoffensively, but black makes me feel daring and mysterious, heheh =P

  10. OH MAN! :-( I am so sorry that you are having a hard time, darling gal! This totally sucks. BOOOO! HISSSSS! BOOOOO! Aw, I'm sorry you lost some of your stuff. sigh ... we've gotten some beaten up packages delivered by the USPS in the last few years. You have to wonder what goes on in the sorting rooms, etc.

Here's hoping that April is MUCH, MUCH better! Sending you love.

    1. I had this image of the first scene in Ace Ventura when he's disguised as a UPS guy when they handed me my package lol... it would be super funny, if it didn't infuriate me.

      hugs!

  12. Oh no!! They fooled away your things :(. The shorts looks great and very figure flattering. I hope they will pop up some day.
Meh, black lips doesn't work for darker skins?? I think the opposite and it fits you great. Don't listen to those who tries to tell what a goth should look like.
I hope everything will be solved for you once you have a more permanent home <3

    1. I'll have to recreate them, sadly. I think more than anything, it's the buttons I regret losing on those shorts-- the lace and fabric are generic, but the buttons weren't cheap and easy to find. I hope whoever has them is enjoying them, at least... heh.

I'm almost positive things will be better once we have a permanent home! Just need to get there first.
