Fashioning My Cyber Microcosm: Purple purple, toil and trouble...

When Sophistique Noir announced that this month would be purple, I fell into a haze of ideas.
Like her, purple has nay stray far as my most used complimentary color to black. Partially because it adds color to my otherwise monochrome wardrobe, but most definitely because it appeals a great deal to my tastes.

This is a lot of people's favorite color, and for very good reasons-- it's quite alluring and rife with an air of mystery. It's principle symbolism's are royalty, intuition, and wisdom. It also, in a way (it's really indigo-- but I consider it more purple than blue!), resprents the third eye chakra-- which is to percieve things beyond the existential realm. To meditate on the third chakra is to open your mind towards enlightenment.

Of course, there are other less spiritual ways in which purple appeals to many others...

I can't really pin point why I love it so much-- in fact it would be easier to say I obsess about it. If a class in a game is typically color dominated by purple (i.e. ability graphics), then that's likely the class I will be. You can almost guarantee it. If it's a combination of black and purple, well, in not so many words... hell yes!

Today's outfit has one of my favorite purple pieces-- but it was hard picking something I hadn't already shown in past posts. It doesn't look very purple in the photos because it refuses to photograph well, but it's a darker hue of purple... perhaps amethyst on the darker side would be more accurate.

The skirt is very simple, but because of the material it ranks into my top 5; it's a shifting taffeta, in dark amethyst and black. I also decided to sport the new lip color my mother sent inside my most recent care package. It is Vamp it up! by Wet 'n Wild. Thankfully, because it is purple in nature, this almost black lip color doesn't looks half bad on my skin tone! It looks much better than pure black and in person. I had to up the yellow/red in the photos to compensate for the overall blue hue my skirt was casting in the color of them... which in turn changed the color of my skin a little darker and yellowy-red than usual.
It's really a shame that I was not having the best day editing the color of my photos-- perhaps some other time in future outfit posts. I digress.

Purple doesn't stop there. It consumes every aspect of how I perceive something to be highly desirable, and if there is a possibility of something existing in purple, I will search till I find it.

I make lots of purple and black things; if you look through my Tricks and Treats tab, you'll see a peek of just how much. Many of my tools are also purple and black, and if I had it my way... everything I own would be purple and black!

Will it ever stop, this obsession with purple and black? The answer is likely no. It thrills me so, to find that one purple or black item I never knew I wanted. It's an easy sell.

And really, why should I assuage something that brings me so much delight in such a simple and non destructive way? Just to appear less odd? Heh... well, I'm afraid there's little chance of that.

My beauty tools are dominantly purple! Even the handles and hair of the brushes
Yup, purple is my favorite color.
It'll always be the cup of tea that I brew intensely in my mind's eye...

  1. Purple is my favorite color too, and yes, I also have lots of purple appliances and tools. Someone once said I had "a purple problem", but it's not a problem to me :)

I love your pretty box, thank you for sharing! And I can't believe you added that song - that is MY PARTY SONG!

    1. Heh! You should tell them it's a heightened state of mind ;P

It's super catchy! I had to add it.

  2. Purple does have intensely spiritual undertones - I'm glad you touched on that in your post! I love it when people contribute theme posts that explore areas other than fashion (even though my blog is strictly fashion, I love variety!). :) You do have an amazing collection of purple! Looks a lot like my life. ;) And I, too have found that photographing purple with a digital camera throws all of the colors in the photo off. It only seems to happen with purple (which usually comes out blue in the photos and I have to color-correct in Photoshop). I wonder why that is. I thought it was just my camera, but maybe not!

Thanks for sharing your passion for purple in this month's theme! I am looking forward to reading about how you created that fabulous sewing box.

    2. It's an interesting topic, indeed-- I tend not to shove my beliefs into my blog, but this seemed fairly reasonable to add without seeming pious lol

I guess it can officially be described as photo-rebellious! I very rarely get the true shades, and I too thought it was because of the quality of my camera...though, I did get it for free for a measly couple hundred points gained through my credit card heh!

Glad to have you as a reader! I just recently became yours after realizing how to do it so it turns up on my reader =)

  3. Interesting, I didn't know about the spiritual part of purple ^^

The skirt you have is a great shade of purple!

    1. Oh there is a wealth of information on color association through spiritualism. It's worth the look!

Thank you! I only wish you could see it's truest color =)
      Close enough I suppose!

  4. Wow, I liked your spritual approach to the topic! ^^ It's funny how you used gaming to explain your attraction to the color; actually I do the same, I pick the purple stuff, especially since it almost always symbolises either something regal, or something dark, but anyhow mysterious...:)

    1. Thank you :)

I should've added that it's a huge source of indecision. I'm generally assigned healing duty in my dungeon group, and almost vehemently refuse tanking duty... but if a tank had some purple anything, even if it's minuscule, I always try to tank! Heh.

    1. I even bought my sewing machine under the direct influence of its purple filigree decorations. Thanks to the 4.5 user rating it received, I was able to easily convince my hubby that it was a most auspicious purchase ;)

    1. My momma is a peach and a doll! She and I share the same tastes in nearly everything; I was handed down some of my greatest pieces of clothing and shoes from her younger year wardrobe!

I actually miss living with her a great deal; she is a good mother, and an awesome best friend.

  7. I entered you blog and was invited by your gorgeous purple layout ♥

I've been wanting to try that Wet an wild lipstick for a while now. Some how I never find it at stores.

    1. Thank you! I was completely inspired by the purple frenzy going on; I noticed a little lack of purple, despite having my link texts and border purple-- the only real change was the color I tweaked of the background. Small changes make huge impacts! I'm glad you enjoy it =D

Y'know, I had the hardest time finding it also-- my mother easily found it back in my home town in Canada. Here in AZ I searched everywhere I could in Flagstaff and a few other close by towns. I caught wind that it might be at K-mart, but I was sent a few tubes later by my mother, so I can't confirm.

  8. I would love to read a post about your tool box! Oh I love tutorials!
I think I will name you the Purple lady next after Victorian Kitty. You seems to choose things by that colour :)
The skirt is so lovely I can imagine how lovely the fabric and the changing shade of colour on the taffeta.

    1. Thank you! I really do base many of my decisions to buy something just by its color =D

Sometimes I feel like adding some lace, but it's so lovely on it's own!

  9. I really love the skirt, it looks like it would match with many pieces in a mostly black wardrobe. Also, purple lipstick is AWESOME. I might have to go get that WnW one you are wearing, it looks like a fabulous colour (and you can't go wrong with their prices!)

    1. It does match nearly everything in my wardrobe-- at least everything that's black.
Oh I adore wet n wild's lipsticks, they're super great for their price!

  10. Ooh, your box is so sweet and the skirt is lovely ^^

  11. Your box is lovely! I'm going to have to hunt through your blog and see if there's a post about you making it. The purple makeup looks really good on you. I always think girls with darker skin pull purple off far better than I can! (I get worried that with being so pasty that I look a little too dead for my own good sometimes.) Your mum is really awesome sending you makeup including purple lipstick in your care-package.

    1. The box project is nearly two years old lol. I usually post projects of note that are recent, but I'll eventually make a post about it since it would definitely seem that I grabbed the attention of people with it!

Heh, I'm always rather jealous of pale people and their ability to wear many colors well, especially black! I enjoy the contrast it creates.

Yes, she is quite amazing! She's always very aware of what I'd love to wear and what I'd like to try; sometimes I think our brains are linked ;)
