Mortem's Tricks or Treats: Sophisticated Kitty Shoes

I'm not sure whether it was pure happenstance, but when Mrs. Kitty over at Sophistique Noir announced her latest monthly theme I couldn't help but to laugh.

This month's theme is "Special Occasions".
And here's why it struck me as amusing...

Today is the exact day my beloved kitty Poe was born; his first full year of life.
Since adopting him, I tried to chronicle most of his growth... but the other photos didn't quite fit in to this little collage, so there's a considerable gap.

From tea-cup kitty to cool cat

Last Saturday, my husband and I were invited to the wedding of one of his colleagues. I was particularly excited because only a mere week before I got my hands on a beautiful pair of t-strap vinyl pumps, and at quite the bargain of just $7 from Payless Shoes.
I had kept them nice and packed away, and waited for the right time to bust them out-- and happily it was not a very long time.

New and ready to be blogged about...

The day of the wedding came, and I promised my neighbor I would help her pick out her outfit and do her make up and hair. So over next door I went, unaware that during the commotion in the house and my sudden absence after said commotion, that my own Mr. Kitty decided to have a vinyl snack...

Poe is the first cat I've been raising from kitten-hood... he's also the first cat I could truly call my own. In the short time I've had him, he's made me realize one unequivocal fact: as a cat owner, you come know and accept that sometimes owning something in its original bought state is a pure luxury. Poe is a firecracker compared to the gentleness of my late dog Chico, but in being the little pest that Poe is, his exuberance has led to some very savvy ways of fixing what he fraught with destruction: my sewing machine cover, lots of thought as to how one should decorate the house, and these pumps-- among various other disasters.

As an avid believer that nothing is too far gone to do nothing with, I took my anger and frustrations and went into my creative laboratory.

So with a little glue, some lace, and bows....
I managed to recreate and even exceed the beauty of the former heels.

I guess I have Poe to thank for all the forced moments of angry creativity he's given me thus far...

  1. That is a very clever and elegant solution. I love how you managed to turn a bad situation into a creative opportunity. Thank you for the inspiration.

    1. Thank you, I usually try to salvage what I can... though I still feel owed a brand new pair of shoes, hehe =P

  2. That Poe is such a cutie pie! And of course shiny new strange smelling shoes have to be examined - closely ;) I'm glad you could save them though, they look gorgeous now.

    1. Maybe he felt that the shoes potential weren't being met... so he showed initiative XD... heh, I can't stay mad at him, though I did get some pay back. I bought a pumpkin costume and put it on him for a few minutes, and took pictures...

    2. Haha! You gotta post some pictures - or it didn't happen ;)

  3. I actually like the "new" shoes better than the "old" ones! Next time something of mine gets destroyed I will have to keep this in mind.

    1. Thanks, I thought so too! But I still feel regretful that I couldn't keep them as they were.
I used a bit of E6000 too, so it'll stay relatively permanent.

  4. Naughty kitty! Anyway, I agree your "after" shoes look much better than the "before" shoes. At least you got something beautiful as a result of the incident, ahah..

    1. Heheh, yes-- I just hope he doesn't plan on chewing any more shoes. I would much rather keep those the way they are!

  5. And then he looked at you with “those eyes”... how could you possibly stay mad? And they do look much better after your creative solution! LOL

    1. You're right, I couldn't stay mad... but I did get even yesterday =P
I bought a jack o'lantern costume for cats, and put it on him...
      I took several pictures lol

  6. I have some experience with destructive cats, but thankfully, they tend to stay away from my shoes. I think they look lovely in the "after" picture.

We almost adopted a cat who looked very much like your Poe. We were going to name him Lazarus. Unfortunately, Lazarus tested positive for FIV (HIV for cats), and we thought it would be too dangerous to have him around my other cat as it's transmitted through their saliva. I don't know what became of Lazarus. Do you know what breed Poe is?

    1. Sorry you couldn't adopt Lazarus =(
I believe Poe is an American shorthair mix. His father was a bombay, but I'm not sure what his mother was.

  7. Aaaw, I know this gaze...! My kittens would lay proudly next to their just destroyed victim being one of my clothes, shoes, bags or whatever they can catch and look at me like 'I've just destroyed your most expensive satin skirt, but look, I'm so cute, you can't be mad at me...!' *sigh...*

The 'new' shoes are very elegant, I love the contrastful mixture of vinyl and lace and the tiny bows in the front make it so 'You'. ^^

    1. Heheh.
Poe doesn't usually lay near his victims XD. He usually hides under the bed, which is when I know he's done something bad!

Thank you! I was really wondering whether I should've put that bow on the front-- but if I didn't it might've been too side heavy, heh.

  8. Ahahah! This story is adorable though <3.
You were lucky, finding such nice shoes at so little a price... and you made them even more beautiful with your work *_* now they're unique and even more elegant!

    1. It's funny, because I had a strong feeling I wouldn't be able to keep the shoes, while I was buying them-- I didn't expect they'd be partially mauled. At least they look better, but they're not the shoes I essentially felt I wouldn't be able to keep! Call it a premonition...

  9. He is a doll! He has a face like my Malice...except it looks like he retained some kittenhood fluffiness (she did not). So far she's only managed to destroy the ribbon off my spare change jar and break an old dollar-store wizard statue I've had for ages (and was considering giving away). As spazzy as she can, she tends to keep it confined to the toys (both hers and the bunny's).

You did a wonderful job on the shoes, I must say. I like them much better after you added your special touches, actually. They're unique and truly yours now.

    1. He is quite the rascal =P
I heard somewhere that tabby cats are unusually mischievous... might just be hearsay.

Ah well, there's no shortage of reconstruction in our house! Hehe.

  10. My gato's destructive tendencies have necessitated a new floor. Your gato's destructive tendencies have necessitated pretty shoes. I think your gato wins.

  11. haha, sad story with a happy ending! The shoes turned out great :D

  12. I love how the shoes turned out! I had a couple of pairs of metallic silver shoes, and my one cat likes to play with tin-foil balls.......apparently he believed that my shoes were also tin foil and he DESTROYED them! I thought DOGS were supposed to destroy shoes, not cats.....

  13. One of our boys was particularly spirited when he was a kitten... It truly teaches you patience. :) This sort of situation is definitely the LAST thing you need when getting ready for a special event, but you handled it with grace and the end result is awesome! Very nice job to you and your naughty little muse. ;)

I'm NOT glad that you had to deal with this situation, but I'm very glad you shared it with us for the monthly theme!

So true! I have specific boxes to store my hats so that Caprica does not chew on the hats *or* the boxes. And she loves to chew on my tombstones. *sigh*

I love what you did with the shoes. A very elegant solution! And a cute story, as well. :)
